FISHER, Charles. E., "Buddy", Sr., 90, WWII Flying Tiger Fighter Pilot, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 22, 2012. Born in Royal Oak, MI, on Jan. 23, 1922 to O. M. and Deborah Rothschild Fisher. Bud and family moved to Brandon, FL. in the mid 20's. His family was one of the pioneer families in Brandon. He was especially fond of his older brother, Ross E. Fisher, whom graduated from Univ. of Michigan at 16 years old; Harvard and Edinburgh Univ. and was a professor of Medicine at Tulane Univ. Bud joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 where he attended flight school and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant and assigned to the prestigious Flying Tigers in China under the Command of Gen. Claire Chennault, and the 14th Air Corp., 51st Fighter Group. Bud flew over 50 missions in China, Burma & India flying P-40's and his favorite plane, P51 Mustang. Upon returning to Tampa after WWII, Bud attended the Univ. of Tampa where he met his future wife Renee. Bud earned a B.S. in sociology and rowed on the crew at UT. Upon graduation he joined The Hillsborough Co. School Board where he served for 38 years. Bud was very active in the community serving as Captain of the Civil Air Patrol; officiated football for 25 years; Police Athletic League Benefactor, taught swimming many summers at Davis Islands Pool; benefactor to The Children's Home and the Florida Sheriff's Boys & Girls Youth Ranch; Bel-Mar Shores HOA president; Chief of the 37th Aero-Medical Evacuation reserve unit at MacDill AFB; Eagle Scout, 32nd degree Mason, member of Egypt Temple Shrine and started the UT Women's Crew Team in the early 70's. Bud's wife of 64 years, Renee Fisher , passed away in June. He is survived by three sons; Ross, Chip & Marc Fisher; grandchildren, Chad (Emma), Brad, Cory, Alec, Zach, Ross II, Jessica Renee, Hannah and Marc Fisher II; great grandson, Charles E. "Charlie" Fisher, IV. The family wishes to thank Barbara Novak and Bayshore Home Health. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30th at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Renee Fisher Foreign Language Scholarship Fund c/o The Plant High School Scholarship Fund.
